Guidelines for the 26th Annual CEGSS Conference
The Conference is held annually by McGill’s Civil Engineering Graduate Student Society (CEGSS) and is open for free to all civil graduate students, alumni, and department staff from McGill and other Canadian universities.
This event is an excellent opportunity to practice your presentation skills and show off your ongoing research for a chance to win cash prizes!
There are opportunities to become acquainted with your peers at McGill and other universities as well as networking with individuals who are working in industry.
This year’s Conference will be held on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019, from 9:00am to 5:30pm at the Thomson House Ballroom, 3650 McTavish Street, Montreal, H3A 1Y2. Complementary lunch and coffee breaks will be provided. Guests may register at the door at any time during the event.
- 1) Provide us with an abstract of your research by Friday, April 26th, 2019 to cegssconference@gmail.com.
2) After receiving approval, prepare a PowerPoint-style oral presentation to share with us on the day of the conference.
- Presentations are welcome from all civil engineering disciplines (structural, environmental, transportation, water resources, and geotechnical).
- Each presentation should be no more than 10 minutes long.
- Cash prizes will be awarded to the best overall presentations, as determined by our panel of judges.
Even if you are not presenting, all civil engineering graduate students, alumni, and university staff are welcome! Industry representatives: please contact the conference coordinator if you wish to attend.

Abstract guidelines:
- All text should be in Times New Roman. The title should be size 14 and bold.
- All other text should be size 12.
- Author names, department, and contact information MUST be written.
- Page margins should be 1 inch and all text should be centrally justified.
After submitting an abstract, prepare a PowerPoint presentation to share with us! Please send a copy of your presentation to cegssconference@gmail.com. Presentations may also collected at the registration desk on the day of the event.
